Religion And Woman (2003-Dec-04)
Adherents of different faiths consider role of religion in ending violence against women
        PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) -- A meeting of 50 Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu and Christian women from seven Asian nations asked religions to do more to end violence against females. The rate of domestic violence is hard to measure but the meeting's sponsor, the New York-based World Conference of Religions for Peace, estimated that at least one in every three women worldwide has been beaten, raped or abused, typically by acquaintances. The world conference was holding the first meeting of a newly formed South Asian religious women's network. Participants also reviewed such issues as people trafficking, rape and domestic violence. "The religious sector has a role to play in raising the red flag," said Lucita Lazo, regional program director of the United Nations Development Fund for Women. Religion "has the potential to influence social behavior in a positive and peaceful manner and at the community level where change must take place," said Mu Soc Hua, women's affairs minister of Cambodia.

Inscriptions Sur Pierre (Reprise, 2003/Nov/11)
Il Y A Bientôt Huit Ans

       Le 6 janvier 1996, vingt-cinq jeunes Khmers de l' Association des Étudiants en Lettres ont mis au jour trois monolithes enfouis dans l'enceinte de la pagode Prey Veng, village de Prey Veng, district de Dangkor à 30 km au sud de Phnom Penh sur la R.N. 3. Les trois stèles portent des inscriptions en sanskrit avec des caractères khmers anciens. Leur auteur était Pandit Vidya Deva qui loua le dieu Shiva tout en mentionnant des offrandes, des tributs, des servants et servantes ainsi que les superficies des champs propriétés du temple. Du temple lui-même, il ne reste que quelques pierres dont un Yoni (complément du Linga, objets du culte shivaïte) au pied de quelques gros arbres. Les internautes pourront visiter le site www.angkor-ruins.com (temples in Takeo province) pour avoir une idée de ces petits temples isolés dont le reste des ruines était vite occupé par une pagode des temps modernes. Enfin, Pandit Vidya Deva cita le couronnement en 615 A.D. de l'empereur Isana Varman, indiquant ainsi aux générations suivantes qu'ils ont vécu aux VIe et VIIe siècles dans l'empire du Tchen-la dont la capitale était Isanapura, l'actuel Sambor Prey Kuk au nord de la ville de Kampong Thom. Ne Regarde Pas Nos Péchés (2003-Oct-26)
        Have and should the two Buddhist Orders' Supreme Chiefs, Samdech Preah Sangharaja Tairng Pee Gana, say something on the recent killings and attempted murder? The politicians have made them king makers amidst a couple of other "dignitaries" inside the Crown Council. They have not said no to this constitutional honour, so they accepted the highest responsibility of moral guidance and tradition. They can always imitate Son Eminence Chuon Nat who said nothing during the jailing of Keng Vannsak and the killings of Preap In, Chau Borei, Khay Mathura, etc. If they don't have the gut and the caliber of Jean-Paul II, they can at least look at His Holiness the Dalai Lama who fights for Tibet democracy with only his words -- which scare the hell out of the Chinese authorities. Comrade Tep Vong and Ven. (really?) Bou Kry must show Khmer Buddhist believers that they are not mere tools of the CPP or the king. Or maybe Vens. Tep Vong and Bou Kry are praying Buddha with the following Catholic prayer :
