Quoting Hun Sen
JANUARY 4th, 2004

Hun Sen : Who is Hun Sen? Some say he's Vietnam's puppet; others say he is a Khmer Rouge member. During the struggle against the Americans, I was accused of being a Colonel of Lon Nol, but was not arrested... In Moscow, the centre of communism, the communists said Hun Sen is [sic] a liberal. In France, the liberal place, they say Hun Sen is a communist. What should I do? Whatever you say, Hun Sen is a Cambodian; he does things the Cambodian way. Only the Cambodian people can boss Hun Sen around. [ cf.  http://www.mekong.net/cambodia/sen_demc.htm ]

Yuth NEA : For the sake of discussion, what are your thoughts on that quote?

N.P. : You remember the past-1993 rumour "Tioulong Saumura would be widow soon"? Le poltron Ranariddh, First Prime Minister, repeated the Second Prime Minister Hun Sen to the guests of a dancing party. This meant that le poltron Ranariddh accepted the eventuality of Sam Rainsy assassination from the part of Hun Sen. Ranariddh should have alerted Khmer public opinion by convoking a press conference and denounced the "Hun Sen quotation" as unacceptable.
I mean that a dictator can emerge only with the complicity or submission of his colleagues. Hun Sen met and meet no resistance from Yes-men Heng Samrin, Chea Sim, Say Chhum, Hok Lundy, Chea Sophara, etc. Sihanouk met no resistance from Penn Nouth, Nhiek Tioulong, Kou Roun ... and, before it was too late, from Lon Nol and Sirik Matak. How many Funcinpecists are always A genoux devant Ranariddh no matter his nature and his deeds? Where are now the No-men of Sam Rainsy?
You ask me "How about the Vietnamese"? I reply : how about the East German, the Polish, the Czech, the Tchetchen, etc. face to the Russian?

Merchants in Angkor Park
JANUARY 6th, 2004

An Illegal Market Built in
Angkor National Park
Koh Santepheap : Any form of resettlement in National Parks is prohibited but lately score of stands have already formed a market in the area of Angkor National Park in Mundol 3 village, Slor Kram commune, Siem Reap district, Siem Reap province. According to a royal decree on National Parks Protection and Conservation signed by King Norodom Sihanouk on May 28, 1994, Angkor National Park is under the control of Apsara Authority, who is responsible for the roles of Angkor tourism services, development and conservation. This is not the first time the area was violated. Apsara authorities and the provincial authorities abruptly torn down about 104 banned huts in the same Park September 5, 2003, said an Apsara official. A man, Seng Choeurn, builds up and owns the illegal market, said the local police. Police tried to prevent the market from being built for several times, but the man snubs the action and continues to complete the building, said Lt. Col. Tan Chay, special police chief of Angkor National Heritage.

Following Siem Reap Vice-Governor, Tep Bun Tay, the unlicensed and illegal market will be demolished soon pending an action from Provincial and Apsara Authorities. Apsara Authorities deputy director, Soen Kong, confirmed that, "in co-operation with communal and provincial authorities we would pull down the market soon." "We don't care if it is licensed, any resettlement in the extent of Angkor National Park must be absolutely bulldozed," he finally stressed.
