LOR  SY
AUGUST 19th, 2003

Koh Santepheap : Popular comedian Lor Sy now becomes a politician and lives in hiding in Funcinpec leader Prince Norodom Ranariddh’s residence in Kien Svay district, about 13 km south of Phnom Penh. He said he has never slept at home and met his wife and children since he used his political role in the royalist Funcinpec party to strongly criticize Prime Minister Hun Sen during the past month-long period of national election campaign. He told reporters at Funcinpec Phnom Penh’s headquarter last week that he joined the royalist and wholeheartedly supported the party because Funcinpec President Prince Norodom Ranariddh promised him a post of secretary of state in the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.

He said he's currently disappointed because Funcinpec didn’t win the election and pledged not to join the new government with Hun Sen as prime minister. “I will support Funcinpec forever,” Lor Sy said.

Sam Rainsy : Alliance Still Strong ; Hun Sen Must Be Replaced
AUGUST 20th, 2003

Koh Santepheap : Opposition leader Sam Rainsy was optimistic that the Cambodia People’s Party [CPP] could find a qualified candidate to replace Prime Minister Hun Sen in the new government. “The CPP has many educated persons. Why can’t they find a person to replace Hun Sen,” Sam Rainsy said after meeting with Funcinpec Secretary-General Prince Norodom Sirivuddh to discuss the political stance and the strength of the Funcinpec-Sam Rainsy Alliance of Democrats. “In the CPP, there are a lot of capable, experienced, patriotic persons who understand about the democracy… So I hope the CPP can find a better man to replace Hun Sen,” he added.

The alliance of democrats did not want Hun Sen to continue his premiership but this doesn’t mean “we desert him,” Sam Rainsy said. “There are a lot of positions for him and he can be transferred to another position.” Sam Rainsy said many democratic countries in the world have no same prime minister to lead for 20 years. Only a dictatorial and poor country does have the same prime minister for 20 years. “So Hun Sen must be changed.” CPP spokesman Khieu Kanharith said the alliance of democrats “shouldn’t worry about the CPP. They should worry only about their alliance.”
